Increases in extreme weather events related to climate change have resulted in increased economic losses for smallholder farmers. Governments and development agencies are on the search for reliable and timely solutions to prevent damages from natural disasters. ICT is at the forefront of these solutions.
The e-Transform Reports were released earlier this year, covering a number of critical topics on ICT in the African context. Two of these reports focus on agriculture and climate change adaptation, exploring broad issues in the sector and more specific applications and projects used in a number of countries.
The Grameen Foundation has been working on ICT-enabled data collection and advisory services for a number of years. Continuing to lead in innovation, the Community Knowledge Workers Program has collected over 38,000 surveys and has launched an online public data platform.
